"To preserve the freedom of the human mind then and freedom of the
press, every spirit should be ready to devote itself to martyrdom."

Posing with Michael Ritter (prevention education counselor) at the Multicultural AIDS Awareness Day on campus - April 5, 2005 >>>
Here are some reports from the Golden Gate Xpress on outreach work I did during my undergraduate practices at San Francisco State University. I represent a different group in almost every article because I was working with various organizations. And I also kept changing the name of my own student group on campus. It wasn't much of a group cuz it was mainly myself running everything. But to hold events or set up tables on campus, you had to be with an official student organization. I also couldn't have gotten so much publicity and work done without the help of Emi Koga (counseling major and fellow DanceSafe volunteer) and Bita Shooshani & Michael Ritter (prevention education counselors). A talk on issues around the federal government's attack on marijuana and its impact on medical users. Co-sponsored
by Americans for Safe Access with fellow activists Robyn Few, Michael Foley, and Mikki Norris - February 19, 2003.
The second of two "Sex, Drugs, Music, & Extra Credit" workshops focused on safety around drugs
and sexual behavior at dance parties. They were conducted two semesters in a row as a part of
the Human Sexuality course in McKenna Theatre (a room which holds 500 seats, although this
article incorrectly stated that 50 were in attendance). "Ecstasy" is also misspelled in the headline.

Although barely mentioned in the article's content, our first "Sex, Drugs, Music, & Extra Credit" workshop inspired this
report on the work of DanceSafe and ecstasy awareness. My homegirl and colleague Emi Koga presented a session
on the relationship between party drugs, sexual behavior, and dance culture. She even showed a clip from the rave
documentary Better Living Through Circuitry where electronic musicians discuss their techniques for producing sound,
including capturing patterns from brainwaves. Oh yeah, they misspelled my name in this article - May 15, 2002.
I had only been volunteering for DanceSafe and going to school at SF State for a few months when this
article was released. Although the story appeared in our school paper, it was more about DanceSafe's
general activities than about work I was doing on campus. At that time, I didn't have any student group
organized yet, nor had I met any of the counselors I would eventually work with - November 16, 2000.
